Ketamine
Infusion Therapy
A scientifically validated, physician-supervised treatment for chronic pain and mood disorders — administered personally by our board-certified anesthesiologist, who has worked with ketamine throughout an entire career in anesthesia.
Book Your Consultation — $95Ketamine has been a core tool of anesthesia practice for decades. Our physician brings that deep clinical expertise to every infusion — this is not a medication we are learning. Every session is personally directed and monitored by the physician.
Begin With a Consultation
Your journey starts with a thorough one-on-one evaluation with our physician to determine whether ketamine infusion therapy is safe and appropriate for you. The $95 consultation fee is credited in full toward your treatment if you proceed.
A thorough review of your diagnoses, prior treatments, current medications, and response to therapies to date.
We screen for absolute and relative contraindications — cardiac status, psychiatric history, and any factors that affect your protocol or eligibility.
We discuss your individualized dosing protocol, recommended number of sessions, scheduling, and what to expect during each infusion.
All questions answered before treatment begins. We believe every patient should fully understand each step of their care before proceeding.
Initial Consultation
A private, unhurried evaluation directly with the physician who will administer your treatment. No staff intermediaries. Most consultations take 45–60 minutes.
We give you an honest, thorough assessment — including telling you clearly if ketamine therapy is not right for your situation.
Schedule My Consultation →How Ketamine Works
Ketamine works through an entirely different biological mechanism than conventional pain medications and antidepressants — which is exactly why it helps patients for whom other treatments have failed.
NMDA Receptor Blockade
Ketamine blocks NMDA glutamate receptors in the brain and spinal cord, interrupting the abnormal pain signaling pathways that become hard-wired in chronic pain conditions.
Rapid Neuroplasticity
Ketamine rapidly stimulates regrowth of synaptic connections in the prefrontal cortex and limbic system — brain regions that atrophy under chronic pain and depression.
Central Sensitization Reset
In chronic pain, the CNS becomes hypersensitized — amplifying pain far beyond its source. Ketamine resets this central sensitization, reducing the overall gain on the pain system.
Anti-Inflammatory Action
Ketamine modulates neuroinflammation by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines in the central nervous system — a key driver of both chronic pain and treatment-resistant depression.
Opioid System Interaction
Ketamine interacts with opioid receptors as a partial agonist and can reduce opioid tolerance — making it valuable in opioid-dependent pain patients and opioid-sparing strategies.
Faster Than Antidepressants
Conventional antidepressants target serotonin and take weeks to work. Ketamine acts on the glutamate system and can produce measurable mood improvement within 24–48 hours.
Who Ketamine Therapy Helps
Ketamine infusion therapy has clinical evidence for a wide range of pain and mood disorders. Below are the conditions with the strongest support.
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
Among the strongest evidence bases for ketamine — Type I & II refractory to other treatments.
Treatment-Resistant Depression
For patients who have failed two or more antidepressant trials. Rapid response within 24–72 hours.
Fibromyalgia
Addresses central sensitization underlying widespread pain, fatigue, and cognitive symptoms.
Chronic Pain Syndrome
Centrally mediated chronic pain that has not responded to conventional treatment approaches.
Chronic Neuropathic Pain
Peripheral neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia, and other neuropathic syndromes.
Spinal Pain
Failed back surgery syndrome, chronic radiculopathy, and refractory axial low back pain.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Emerging strong evidence for reduction of PTSD symptom severity, hyperarousal, and trauma-related pain.
Chronic Migraine & Cluster Headache
For intractable migraines and cluster headache cycles unresponsive to conventional preventive therapies.
Phantom Limb Pain
Central pain mechanisms driving phantom limb pain respond to NMDA blockade, with documented improvement.
Acute Suicidal Ideation
Rapid reduction of acute suicidal ideation as an adjunct to standard care — FDA-recognized via esketamine pathway.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Preliminary but promising evidence for rapid antiobsessional effects in treatment-refractory OCD.
Potential Side Effects
At the sub-anesthetic doses used in infusion therapy, ketamine has a well-established safety record. Side effects are almost always transient and resolve within minutes to hours after the infusion ends.
Dissociation / Dreamlike State
Mild Perceptual Changes
Nausea
Dizziness or Lightheadedness
Elevated Blood Pressure & Heart Rate
Blurred or Double Vision
Headache
Anxiety or Agitation
Fatigue or Drowsiness
Vivid Dreams
A Note on Safety: Because our infusions are administered and monitored by a board-certified anesthesiologist who has used ketamine routinely in the operating room throughout a career, the risk of adverse events is substantially lower than in clinics staffed by non-anesthesiologist providers. We are equipped and trained to manage any eventuality before it becomes a problem.
Contraindications
Ketamine is not appropriate for everyone. A thorough medical screening at consultation identifies patients for whom treatment is either absolutely contraindicated or requires careful individualized risk-benefit evaluation.
| Condition | Classification | Clinical Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective Disorder | Absolute | Ketamine can precipitate or worsen psychosis; NMDA blockade mimics schizophrenia-like symptoms |
| Uncontrolled Hypertension | Absolute | Ketamine reliably raises blood pressure; risk of hypertensive crisis in uncontrolled hypertension |
| Active Mania or Bipolar I (Manic Phase) | Absolute | Risk of precipitating or exacerbating a manic episode |
| Recent Myocardial Infarction (<6 months) | Absolute | Cardiovascular stimulation poses unacceptable risk to recently injured myocardium |
| Elevated Intracranial Pressure | Absolute | Ketamine can further raise ICP in patients with space-occupying lesions or hydrocephalus |
| Active Stimulant or Dissociative Substance Use Disorder | Absolute | Risk of misuse, unpredictable pharmacological interactions, and diversion |
| Pregnancy | Absolute | Insufficient safety data; potential teratogenic and neurodevelopmental risk to fetus |
| Unstable Coronary Artery Disease / Angina | Relative | Cardiac stimulation may trigger ischemia; may proceed with cardiologist clearance and close monitoring |
| History of Psychosis (in remission) | Relative | Case-by-case evaluation; may proceed with psychiatric co-management in stable patients |
| Severe Hepatic Insufficiency | Relative | Ketamine is hepatically metabolized; may accumulate unpredictably in severe liver disease |
| Hyperthyroidism (uncontrolled) | Relative | Exaggerated sympathomimetic response; thyroid disease should be treated and controlled first |
| Poorly Controlled Seizure Disorder | Relative | Conflicting data on seizure threshold; may proceed only if epilepsy is well-controlled and neurology consulted |
What to Expect
We work hard to make every infusion safe, comfortable, and as positive an experience as possible.
Before Your Infusion
Fast for 4–6 hours before treatment. Arrange a driver — you will not be permitted to drive yourself home. Wear comfortable clothing. You may bring headphones and a personal playlist; many patients find music significantly enhances their experience.
During Your Infusion
You will recline comfortably in a private, dimly lit room. An IV is placed and the infusion runs over 40–60 minutes (pain protocols) or 2–4 hours (ultra-low-dose protocols). Vital signs are monitored continuously throughout.
The Ketamine Experience
At sub-anesthetic doses you remain conscious and able to communicate. Most patients describe a dreamlike, floating sensation with gently altered perception of time and space. This resolves fully within minutes of the infusion ending.
Recovery & Discharge
You may rest in our recovery area for 30–60 minutes post-infusion. Once you meet discharge criteria — stable gait, normal vitals, no nausea — you are released to your driver. Most patients feel well enough for light activity the same evening.
When Will I Feel Better?
Pain relief can begin within 24–72 hours of the first infusion for some patients. Mood improvement is often even faster. Results accumulate across a series — most patients experience the greatest benefit after completing 4–6 sessions.
Maintenance & Follow-Up
After your initial series, many patients require periodic maintenance infusions — monthly to quarterly — to sustain their response. We create a long-term plan tailored to your individual needs and response to treatment.
