Platelet Rich Plasma

Advanced Regenerative Treatment for Pain Relief & Healing

At University Pain Consultants, we offer state-of-the-art Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy as a natural, minimally invasive solution for chronic pain. Using your body’s own healing factors, PRP promotes tissue repair, reduces inflammation, and helps restore function — often providing longer-lasting relief than traditional steroid injections. What is PRP Therapy? Platelet-Rich Plasma is a concentrated form of your own blood plasma that contains a high number of platelets and powerful growth factors. These growth factors stimulate cell regeneration, collagen production, and tissue repair.

The Process:

  1. A sample of your blood is drawn (similar to a routine lab test).
  2. The blood is processed in a high-quality centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. We use a double spin technique to concentrate the platelets.
  3. The PRP is precisely injected into the damaged or painful area using ultrasound or fluoroscopic (X-ray) guidance for maximum accuracy.

The entire procedure is performed in-office and typically takes 30–60 minutes.

Conditions We Treat with PRP

Spine & Back Pain

  • Lumbar disc pain (intradiscal PRP)
  • Epidural PRP for radicular pain and sciatica
  • Facet joint syndrome
  • Sacroiliac (SI) joint pain and dysfunction

Musculoskeletal & Joint Pain

  • Knee, hip, shoulder, and other large joint osteoarthritis
  • Rotator cuff injuries and tendinopathies
  • Ligament and tendon injuries (e.g., tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy)
  • Soft tissue injuries and chronic muscle pain

We specialize in targeted, image-guided PRP injections tailored to your specific pain generator. Benefits of PRP Therapy

  • Uses your own biological material (autologous) → very low risk of allergic reaction
  • Minimally invasive with little to no downtime
  • Longer-lasting pain relief compared to corticosteroid injections
  • Promotes natural healing rather than just masking symptoms
  • Can delay or avoid surgery in many cases
  • Excellent safety profile with minimal side effects

What to Expect: Most patients notice improvement within 4–8 weeks as the healing process takes effect. Some conditions respond best to a series of 2–3 injections spaced several weeks apart. Results can last 12–24+ months depending on the severity of the condition and individual healing response.

Why Choose University Pain Consultants for PRP?

  • Board-certified pain management physicians with extensive experience in regenerative medicine
  • Advanced image-guided injection techniques (ultrasound and fluoroscopy)
  • Customized treatment plans — including epidural, facet, sacroiliac, intradiscal, and peripheral joint PRP

  • Comprehensive approach combining PRP with physical therapy and lifestyle optimization

Is PRP Right for You? PRP is an excellent option for patients who:

  • Have chronic joint, tendon, ligament, or spine pain
  • Want to avoid or delay surgery
  • Have not responded well to physical therapy, medications, or steroid injections
  • Prefer a natural, regenerative approach
